In today's issue we were lucky enough to speak to “The Lookout Service”, a band based in Toronto since 2018, and we asked them some questions about their band and music career so far. Here is what the garage rock band told us.
Both of the members, of The Lookout Service, met in high school and have played together in a few bands since then. They told us they started out playing in a garage so technically they could say they are a ‘garage rock band’ as well as an indie rock band, this being the genre of music they would say they most identify with.
The band would say that most of their inspiration comes from just simple everyday things like phrases people say to them or things they both see, this making their music relateable to many people. Communicating ideas for music pieces is quite a challenge because they never learnt to read or write music, yet this does not take away from their music in the end as it is still amazing!
“Rob and I seemed to have found a natural chemistry from playing with each other for years, so the upcoming batch of songs are a kind of reflection of how the two of us just play off of each other” Stergios told us, this must be the reason we can hear such great chemistry in their music.
Drummer of The Lookout Service, Rob, told us that his biggest music influences include: Led Zeppelin, Rush, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Sum41 and Green day. Some great musicians! In addition to that Stergios biggest music influences include: Reignwolf, Kings of Leon, Catfish and the Bottlemen , The White Stripes and July talk. Again, what great people to have as inspiration, the taste!
If The Lookout Service was to describe their sound in 5 words it would be: Loud, Raw, Expressive, Volatile and Suave, and what a perfect way to describe their music!
The Lookout Service wishes to play live shows and are focusing on getting out there and performing with high energy start to finish! After this we asked them if they had any goals for their music careers, they told us that “to headline the iconic Glastonbury Festival would be a dream”, which is a very big goal to achieve, but we believe they can do it!
If they could work with anyone, they told us, “I think working with some big rapper just so I could brag to my friends would be pretty cool, someone like Stormzy or AJ Tracey. I recently found out about Joy Crookes though, and I fell in love so I think I'd pick her. “ We agree that all three of those artists would make excellent music with them.
When we asked them who the most fashionable member of the band was, they answered very honestly telling us that they both decided to wear suits and dress shirts. Simply because according to them they are completely clueless about fashion, and how the band should dress at the moment but are open for fashion tips! Well, you’ve come to the right place! We’re joking... Unless!
The band name came from an old phrase Stergio used to hear from old blues and soul artists; a lot of them would yell, "LOOKOUT" before ripping into some incredible solo or musical break, making it seem as though in that moment they were invincible in some way. The band would aspire to experience a moment like that of their own someday. So, “lookout” Glastonbury!!
Thank you to The Lookout Service for this amazing interview we look forward to what they release in the future. And if your every looking for some fashion tips... Go stream ‘The Lookout Service’!
