THE LUCETTAS INTERVIEW {ISSUE#20}

If you haven't heard of The Lucettas they are a DIY Essex band based in Chelmsford and they have released a brand-new single called 'Cyracos' out at the beginning of this month!

The Lucettas' third single 'Cyracos' is a part of a 12-track album set to release by the end of the Summer, which the band have just finished recording. The single is full of energy, with an intense guitar solo at the end. It depicts a tale of somebody seeking inebriation in an attempt to escape their romantic reality. After the band’s single release, we thought this would be the perfect time to talk to them, and get to know the band more!

The band started from a very young age writing and performing their own songs, “even when we weren’t really ready or good enough”. However, their determination and commitment is what has got them to where they are now and “there’s a lot more growth to come!” The Lucettas believe that “the main thing is in any field is to go for it, get stuck in and work hard and we are no exception to that!”

Even though the band are not entirely clear with what ‘Cyracos’ means, there are plenty of other things that inspires their song writing, “it can be something that you see, something you hear, feel, something that’s sometimes unexplainable.” Tommy their lyricist writes a lot of his lyrics coming from his own life experiences, but even something as small as an interesting turn of phrase picked up in a passing conversation can inspire a whole entire song!

The band have many music idols, “too many to name” although if you like the sound of bands like: Oasis, DMAs, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, The Who, you may like the sound of The Lucettas. Now if this isn’t enough to make you jump on to Spotify and listen to them, then maybe a description of “Energetic, Melodic, Real, Raw and Meaningful” might!

As previously mentioned, the Essex based musicians have plans to release their debut album later this year! They want to continually keep growing and building, “we have been getting so much support and love and we just want to repay that support by giving the people more tunes and more live shows going forward!”

The pandemic hit everyone in the entertainment industry very hard, and the domino effect of it is still being felt now, but aside from that a huge challenge that the band has faced as a group was when “we were living at a distance from each other when we were at different universities, although we continued as a band, we were separate in different cities so that was very challenging to build the momentum which we wanted but we stuck to it and thankfully we’re still working now and achieving great things!” Those previous challenges encountered make them more determined that in the future The Lucettas will live and breathe music, just as they do now, but on a bigger and better stage!

One thing the band has now learnt that they would tell their younger self is, “Nothing is given to you, if you want to do it - do it yourself!” When they were younger, they were under the illusion that “we would make a great EP and some big shot label will come and swoop us up without any other work needing to be done!” They soon found out that that is not necessarily the case and the industry rarely works that way, “you have to go your own way and build your own brand, your own following, make your own path in life, no one is going to help you without you helping yourself first and since we have realised that, we have grown at a rapid rate!”

Asking The Lucettas about their fashion sense, they replied with “we are relatively fashionable but could definitely do with some help sometimes!” Following it up with saying they would never be on a catwalk, “put it that way!” Also, that “there’s been a few fashion shockers over the years, that’s for sure.”

The bands on-repeat song at the moment would obviously have to be ‘Cyracos’ by themselves, because “it’s a banger and we would love everyone to give it a spin.” As you should!

A big thanks to The Lucettas for a great interview, and can’t wait to hear some more tunes later on in the year!
