Thom Browne's Entrance To Couture

issuereset

Spotted, Thom Browne’s debut couture collection making an entrance into Paris Haute Couture, and it's giving shape, structure and all the drama we needed.

First of all let’s talk about the guests that attend the show, 2000 life-size cardboard cutouts of mannequin dressed in the signature grey Thom Browne suits, each carefully folded and seated in the auditorium of the Palais Garnier. While other guests, like Anna Wintour and Cardi B went backstage and onto the opera house’s stage to find their positions.

The show celebrated the house’s two decades of ready-to-wear collections, keeping its brand identity, while mixing a more couture technique and style. Of course the signature grey stayed throughout the show while the suits served shapes and silhouette.

Themes of sea-scapes remained constant with a stunning gold embroidered jellyfish making an appearance on one of the suits which added an extra 'omph' to the already elevated look.

Thom Browne also seems to have taken inspiration from the sky as pigeon styled looks also flocked on the stage of the opera house. Perhaps a nod to the busy and chicly styled streets of Paris. This stunning pigeon gown is all we can think about.

Structure also entered the stage when dramaticized sleeves and headpieces, giving the shape of a pigeon walked the set. The double blazer suits made our jaws drop at the cleverly constructed piece, which was just perfectly insane.

The final look of the show, a Thom Browne bride, ready to head to the church and the office in a perfectly tailored and constructed see through blazer dress, with a high slit and flowing train. Talk about being ready for every occasion!

The show definitely succeeded in meeting the anticipation of the show and kept the core of the brand while ticking all the couture criteria.
