Tommy Cobley a new solo artist, but not new to the music scene. TOMMY fronted Leicester’s rock ’n’ roll outfit Arcades for a decade, playing to crowds at major festivals such as Isle of Wight and Y Not, as well as international tours and consistently sold-out UK shows. After Arcades split, TOMMY knew that his journey as a songwriter was far from over - and the artist is both humble and hungrier than ever.
With the backdrop of a global pandemic, TOMMY found a compulsion to write and explore his inner thoughts. He has created a catalogue of songs surpassing any work he’d previously done, songs demonstrating maturity and an understanding of the world. Despite being detained, the singer explains how the world’s lockdown influenced him as an artist: “I couldn't stop writing and, when it came to recording, I knew these songs were special.”
In 2021, the midlands artist spent eighteen months crafting ‘an album’s worth of songs’ with legendary producer Gavin Monaghan, of Magic Garden Studios. After collaborating with some of the best musicians across his lifetime, TOMMY has a backing band to support the cause of giving the world the gift of his songs - and performing them across the country.
His debut single, ‘Alive,' is certainly a statement that features trumpet licks, gospel vocals, pure heart and groove. It’s just what every party needs - a powerhouse tune that will light up an entire crowd and a chorus line that will echo comfortably around any stadium. ‘Alive’ is a nod to the greats but, with its youthful step forward, possesses a unique sound that sits between the groove of Edwin Starr’s horn section and the nostalgic bagginess we all know and love.
So, with a collection of bangers, debut single and his bohemian presence, TOMMY is kicking 2022 off with a bunch of UK dates happening this February.
The next 12 months are going to be massive for the song writer, make sure that you’re ready for him!
So, without further ado go stream ‘Alive’ by TOMMY we are sure that you’ll love it!
