The 1975 are an iconic band, with an even more iconic, noticeable sound. The band have kept a consistent tone throughout most of their discography so far, starting in 2013 with self titled debut album ‘The 1975’, until now..?
The band’s early success rocketed with their popularity on social media sites like Tumblr, a must have for teens back then. Some of the main themes of the album consist of; teen-angst, rebellious behaviour, relationships and then eventually break-ups, all which the band’s demographic can relate to. During this time the band and their fans created a distinct aesthetic along side the sound of the album, fans plastering it over their Tumblr pages, this style is now what most imagine when they hear Tumblr being mentioned.
However, recently the band have released two new singles. First, of the new album ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’. The 1975 made their comeback with ‘Part Of The Band’ a curveball to the constant sound people would have been expecting, this left people thinking if there was a new sound in the path for the band?
Fear not! The second single to be released, off the soon to be released fifth studio album, ‘Happiness’ brings it back in to the comfort of classic The 1975 sound! The song starting off with voice clips from the members of the band, saying “That's happiness for me”, and then getting hit by Matty Healy’s random yet significant and relevant lyrics.
So, I suppose the only question is will ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’ follow in the sound of ‘Happiness’ and similar to their past discography, or will it take the slight change in direction we can hear with ‘Part Of The Band’?
‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’ is out 14th October!
